PDFCore Studio vs Smallpdf
Smallpdf is a well-built cloud PDF suite with 30+ tools and a large user base. The difference is not the tool list. It is that Smallpdf does the work on its servers, and PDFCore does it in your browser.
The difference is architectural, not a feature list
Both products merge, split, compress and convert. Only one of them needs your document to leave the building to do it.
PDFCore Studio
The engine is WebAssembly and JavaScript running in your tab. There is no upload endpoint, so there is no server copy, no retention window and nothing to breach. Open your network tab and watch: nothing leaves.
Smallpdf
Your file is uploaded, processed on their infrastructure and then deleted according to their retention policy. That policy may well be honoured — but it is a promise about a copy that exists, rather than the absence of a copy.

When Smallpdf is the better choice
A comparison that cannot answer this is an advertisement. Here is where we would point you elsewhere.
You want polished mobile apps
Smallpdf ships iOS and Android apps with account sync. PDFCore is a browser and extension product; there is no native mobile app.
You need e-signature workflows
Smallpdf bundles Sign.com for request-and-track signing across parties. PDFCore signs and stamps a document you already have; it does not chase counterparties for signatures.
You want OCR on scanned archives
Server-side OCR at volume is something a datacentre does better than a browser tab. If you are processing thousands of scans, that is a real argument.
Your team wants centralised billing
Smallpdf Team covers 2–19 seats with member management. PDFCore has team licences too, but Smallpdf’s seat tooling is more mature.

Is PDFCore Studio really offline?
Yes. The tools run on WebAssembly and JavaScript inside your browser tab, so there is no upload endpoint to send a document to. You can prove it: open your browser’s network tab while converting, or turn off Wi‑Fi and keep working.
What does Smallpdf’s free tier actually allow?
Smallpdf’s pricing page says "limited document downloads" but does not publish the daily number. We checked on 31 August 2026 and have left it as "not published" rather than repeat a figure from a third-party tracker.
Can I use PDFCore without an account?
Yes. The free tier needs no sign-up: 26 tools, 5 files per batch, 50 MB per file. An account only exists to hold a paid licence key.
Is my document deleted after processing?
There is nothing to delete. The file is never sent anywhere, so no retention policy applies to it — a stronger guarantee than any deletion promise, because it does not depend on the vendor keeping a promise.
